Home Sweet Home

After two whirlwind weeks visiting Krista in Fort Collins it's nice to be back home. We (Krista) drove over 2,000 miles to Nebraska and on the western slope of Colorado. Since I don't have auto insurance in the US anymore Krista had to do all the driving. Her butt was sore.

My trip back was to spend time with Krista and help her get ready to travel to Dublin, Ireland for a summer internship in public relations. It was a must for Krista to see all her friends before leaving; we both had endless lists of things to do and people to see. I bought her first business suit for an interview in Dublin; man where did all the years go?

Besides doing an endless number of errands, our first excursion was to visit the Williams family in Cedaredge located in western Colorado. Krista graduated with Mike and Jack and we vacationed with most of the family in Playa del Carman, Mexico when the kids just finished their sophomore year. Mike just returned from 5 months studying in Argentina so Krista was anxious to hear about his experience.
The drive was spectacular with snow capped mountains along the way. We chalked up over 600 miles in two days.

Three days later our next leg of the trip was to Nebraska to visit family. We had a great visit and saw many family members and friends in McCook within two days.

Then on to Columbus to visit my sister, Jackie, and son Zack. Zack, a sophomore in high school, qualified for state in discuss. Saturday was the meet so off we went bright and early Saturday for Omaha. Was a warm and windy day. Went back to Fort Collins Sunday and logged in over 1,200 miles.

Only one day left for Denver (65 miles south of Fort Collins) to run errands and meet up with friends. Of course, planned short visits became long visits so we didn't make it back to Fort Collins until early evening. Two days left until departure for both of us.

Long story short, Krista and I crossed everything off our lists and went our separate ways Wednesday morning at the airport. It was a sad good bye since I won't see her again until fall but an exciting chapter in her life with many experiences to look forward to in the next two months.

Since moving to La Colonia I've travelled back to see Krista four times and when returning this is the first time it felt like La Colonia was really home. Besides missing Dennis and the pets, I missed the moist warm weather, the smell of the air when arriving in PV, the ocean, the vegetation, flowers and the people in our small community. Yesterday while buying a tamale and atole (hot chocolate) for breakfast from the back of Manuel's pickup, he asked about Colorado, as did the neighbors. What a nice warm feeling when the locals wave and say buenos dias when walking or driving through town. I still don't speak much of the language but the people are very accepting and friendly. My first night of sleep was interrupted by crowing roosters, barking dogs, cat fights and the waves of the ocean. How comforting all these noises are to me now.
